Is XM Regulated in Malaysia? What BNM's List Shows

Not by BNM: its alert list names 'XM Forex Malaysia' with a 2017 date. And the two CySEC numbers affiliates quote for XM belong to two different companies.

Is XM Regulated in Malaysia? What BNM's List Shows

XM is not regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia, on the central bank’s own record. BNM’s Financial Consumer Alert List, which it keeps for entities that may have been wrongly perceived as BNM-licensed, names “XM Forex Malaysia” at xm.com/my with a date of 6 December 2017. Two affiliate reviews read for this piece say XM holds no Securities Commission Malaysia licence either.

This is an evergreen question answered as a dated register check: every 2026 date below is the day a page was read, not an event.

Is XM regulated in Malaysia? What BNM’s list records

This desk read BNM’s Financial Consumer Alert List on 23 September 2026. One row reads “XM Forex Malaysia”, with the website https://www.xm.com/my and the date 06 Dec 2017. The page gives no reason for the listing.

BNM’s disclaimer sets the scale on that legend. The list, it says, is “a guide to enhance the awareness” of entities “wrongly perceived or represented as being licensed or regulated by” BNM, and it is one way to check whether an entity has been identified as not authorised by BNM. It is not an allegation of fraud. The sentence the affiliate pages skip, as read here, matters as much: absence or later removal from the list “should not be construed as confirmation” that an entity is or was BNM-licensed. Our review of both Malaysian alert lists covers what a listing does and does not prove.

The Securities Commission keeps its own Investor Alert List. The text of it returned to this desk’s automated read on 23 September 2026 carried no XM or Trading Point entry, but an alert list is not a licence register, and the SC’s licensed-entity register was not searched for this piece. The “no SC licence” line therefore belongs to the affiliates, not to us.

Which company signs a Malaysian XM client?

The affiliate pages disagree on the paperwork. safeforexbrokers.com’s Malaysia edition, updated 27 May 2026, says Malaysian traders are registered with XM Global Limited, which it describes as Belize-licensed. forexbrokers.my says only that Malaysians register under an offshore entity. Neither claim could be checked: xm.com/regulation answered 403 to an automated read on 23 September 2026, and the Belize regulator’s licensee page returned navigation text with no XM line. That is an unread register, not an absent licence. XM was not asked for comment by this desk; the entity map is XM’s to state, and the Tickmill version of this question shows why the signing entity matters more than the footer.

Two CySEC numbers, two companies

forexbrokers.my prints CySEC licence 120/10 for XM; safeforexbrokers.com prints 256/14. Neither, as read here, reconciles the other. CySEC’s register of Cypriot investment firms, read on 23 September 2026, explains the gap: they are different firms.

CySEC licenceCompany on the registerLicence date
120/10Trading Point Of Financial Instruments Ltd05/08/2010
256/14Trading.Com Markets EU Limited (ex Trading Point Asset Management Limited)31/10/2014

The register lines we read do not mention XM, so which of these, if either, operates the brand is the affiliates’ claim. More to the point for this map, a Cypriot licence covers business under Cyprus’s rules; it says nothing about a client onboarded offshore from Kuala Lumpur. Our XM review and the same check run on Exness follow that border further.

Questions readers ask

Is XM banned in Malaysia?

Not on any document this desk has read. BNM describes its Financial Consumer Alert List as a guide to entities that may have been wrongly perceived or represented as BNM-licensed; a line on it means not authorised by BNM, not prohibited. Whether a Malaysian resident may lawfully trade with an offshore broker is a separate legal question, and this post does not answer it.

BNM’s list names ‘XM Forex Malaysia’ as not authorised by BNM, and the two affiliate reviews read for this piece say XM holds no Securities Commission Malaysia licence. That describes the broker’s status in Malaysia, not the legality of a resident’s own trading, which this desk has not tested against Malaysian law.

Is XM available to investors in Malaysia?

The affiliate reviews say so, through an offshore company: one names XM Global Limited of Belize, the other says only that Malaysians register under an offshore entity. This desk could not confirm either claim, because XM’s own regulation page returned 403 and the Belize regulator’s list could not be read by automated fetch on 23 September 2026.

Is XM Group legit?

Legitimacy is not a register field. What a register can show is narrower: CySEC lists Trading Point Of Financial Instruments Ltd under licence 120/10 and Trading.Com Markets EU Limited under 256/14, both Cypriot investment firms. The register lines read do not name the XM brand, and a Cypriot licence is not protection for a client in Kuala Lumpur.

The risk line, in our own words: leveraged FX with an offshore counterparty can lose you more than you meant to risk, and a dispute with a company in another jurisdiction is a long walk from home. Licensing varies by country; verify your broker’s local status yourself, and read nothing here as advice to trade.
